Namo Buddha is in Kavre District in the southeast of the valley and about 40km away from the heart of Kathmandu city. It is one of the most important Buddhist religious sites in Nepal. It is the place of pilgrimage highly esteemed by people from all over the world, East and West.
It is the place where wise youngest prince cut his flesh to feed weak tigress and her cubs. The place is suitable to go for short trekking or one day hiking.
One can take a local bus from New Bus Park Kathmandu around 1 to 2 hrs to Banepa and then change there to the Stupa one before 9 am. This bus passes Dhulikhel so it’s possible to catch up it there. Or get a bus to Kavre Bhanjyang and then trek remaining 9km to Namo Buddha.
One can also trek from Banepa to Namo Buddha passing through Panauti and Sangkhu. As alternative, trek from Dhulikhel to Namo Buddha(3hrs).
